Pn junction diode bias. The forward bias and the reverse bias properties of the pn junction imply that it can be used as a diode. From the analysis of both forward bias and reverse bias we can arrive at one fact a pn junction diode conducts current only in one direction ie during forward bias. Negative charges electrons can easily flow through the junction from n to p but not from p to n and the reverse is true for holes. The resistor limits the forward current to a value that will not damage the diode.

The p n junction diode working under forward bias is very useful for the light emitting diode application. During forward bias the diode conducts current with increase in voltage. If the p n junction diode is forward biased with approximately 07 volts for silicon diode or 03 volts for germanium diode the p n junction diode starts allowing the electric current.
